Verify my mortgage eligibility (Mar 28th, 2024)

Are you planning on moving your family out to the Colorado mountains? In this video, we're going to share a family-friendly guide to living in Edwards, Colorado. We'll explore the school system, kid-friendly activities, food options, and outdoor adventures so you can get to know this awesome town.

Mountain Town Life

We all know that if you’re uprooting the family and picking a new place to call home, you’ve got to do your due diligence. This video is designed to do just that: give you a little bit of a quick insight into what it’s like living in Edwards and being a Colorado mountain person.

Edwards is a small town nestled right here in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. We’re known for stunning natural beauty, the community, and endless outdoor activities. Edwards is also the perfect place to raise a family - and we’re going to take a closer look at why.

We’re going to talk about four key topics that pretty much all of our clients talk about - whether they have moved here from different states or the Front Range. Let's find out why Edwards is such a great place for families, from the local schools and kid-friendly activities to the best places to eat, shop and play.

The School System

The school system is one of the main reasons families choose to live in Edwards. The town is known for its top-rated schools with a variety of public and private options. Your children will receive a great education and have the opportunity to thrive.

Additionally, with smaller class sizes and dedicated teachers, your children will receive the individual attention they need to succeed. And with a variety of extracurricular activities like sports, music, and theater, your kids will have the chance to explore their passions and interests.

Some of the top schools include Homestake Peak School, Vale Christian High School, Eagle County Charter School, and Battle Mountain High School.

Kid-Friendly Activities

Next up is kid-friendly activities. There’s pretty much a plethora of kid-friendly activities here in Edwards. One of the things that I’ve noticed with my friends that have lived up here in the Vail Valley area is some of the activities wear the kids down. On a Friday night, sometimes you’re looking forward to the kids having a pizza party or just seeing a movie at the local Riverwalk Movie Theater.

The kids always seem to have a huge smile on their face. Very rarely do I see my kids or my friends’ kids have a crummy day. Edwards has plenty to offer for the kiddos, from the community pool to the playgrounds to the ice rink and bowling alley. There’s always something fun and exciting for the children to do.

There's also a variety of parks, open spaces, and places where your kids can have plenty of room to run and play. Plus, with the nearby Vail and Beaver Creek ski resorts, you have access to mountain biking, scenic gondola rides, skiing, sledding, snowboarding, and more. Whatever your interests and wherever your interest takes you, the Valley has something for your kids.

Food Options

Of course, after all of those super fun activities, there’s got to be a place to eat. Kids are always hungry, and you'll have plenty of options here to choose from. While you probably don’t think of the Vail Valley and Edwards specifically as a foodie location, you might be wrong.

As a family, you’re going to love the variety of culinary options in Edwards. From farm-to-table restaurants featuring local ingredients to the weekly Vail Valley farmer's market where you can pick up fresh produce and handmade crafts, there’s always something delicious to try. With a variety of bars, breweries, and wineries, you really never go thirsty either.

Some of my favorite spots include The Rose Restaurant, Blue Moose Pizza, and La Bottega for some pizza or pasta and wine.

Inflated Prices

One of the things in the Valley that you will notice versus living along the Front Range - such as in Denver - is that the cost of food is higher. Groceries, the cost of your burger at a restaurant, or a glass of wine is going to be at an elevated cost. This is because the only way to get here is I-70.

This road can be fairly treacherous in the wintertime. It’s just logistics, and things in Edwards are a little bit different. The cost of inflation is a little higher than what the government would say inflation numbers actually are because of this.

Just be mindful of your basic needs, necessities, eating out, groceries, personal goods, and pharmacy goods. Those are going to be slightly elevated than they would be if you lived along the Front Range.

The Great Outdoors

Obviously, one of the primary reasons that families choose the Edwards community to move to is the access to the outdoors. As you step outside, there is an unlimited number of things to do - especially for the kiddos.

For outdoor activities in the winter, Beaver Creek and Vail are right up the road. There, you can do some pretty hardcore activities. We’ve also got a lot of kids up here that enjoy hockey, with some competitive hockey teams available as well. Don't forget rock climbing, snowboarding, skiing, and more, all at your kid’s fingertips.

Team Sports

Another great opportunity for the kids is team sports. Anytime that I go out and I meet with friends that have grown up here in the Valley, I hear plenty of old-timey stories from their hockey, soccer, and lacrosse days.

It's a very tight-knit community here in the Valley. While the kids may want to get out of here once they graduate from high school, it seems like the people do form really strong bonds. Your kids will also likely develop long-term friend relationships when living in Edwards.
