Denver's Best Suburbs

If you’re considering relocating to Colorado and you’re super pumped to live here, you're in luck. These three suburbs, located just outside the Denver city limits, make it easy to get to downtown and the mountains. To decide which area best fits your lifestyle, we'll get into the nitty-gritty details of each suburb.

All three of these Denver suburbs are very suited for families as week as first-time homebuyers. Anyone who wants to live in and around Denver and experience Colorado living will enjoy these neighborhoods. To find out which one is right for you, we'll go over them one by one.

Arvada

This up-and-coming suburb is in the countryside of downtown Denver. This means you have all the amenities of the downtown area, including the fun local nightlife, with beautiful countryside views. Arvada has a wide-open space feel for those looking for more space.

One fun attraction out in the area is called the Cussler Museum. This vintage car museum was started by world-renowned author Clive Cussler. He collected vintage cars, restoring them and keeping them in pristine condition. He made sure each one had original parts with nothing modern. You can check out the dozens of vintage cars here, all from Clive's collection.

One of the really cool things about Arvada is its old town, giving it a classic contemporary feel with everything traditional built-in. You can get amazing meals from local restaurants and shop small boutiques featuring artwork from local vendors. You can find everything from Native American jewelry to sportswear and kid's clothes. You can enjoy the downtown feel and small-town vibe while having access to everything that the big town offers.

For all of you hops lovers out there, Arvada also has some amazing small breweries. Just like in downtown Denver, they have their own little walkway featuring a trail of breweries to test those taste buds. One place that is very well known is called Someplace Else Brewing. You can also check out New Image Brewing or Odyssey Brewing for more libations. There are tons of local microbreweries scattered throughout Arvada as well as Silvervine Winery for wine lovers. Whatever you're taste, Arvada has it.

For those of you who are adventurous but don't want to head up to the mountains, try Arvada's archery dodgeball. It's the only place you can play it in Colorado and it's a ton of fun. You can get your friends together, pick two teams, and test out your archery skills with foam darts. Avoid them by jumping and diving to make sure you're on the winning side.

Lakewood

Just outside of and a bit north of Denver is our next suburb, Lakewood. Lakewood is known for amazing open spaces and plenty of outdoor activities. There's Bear Creek Lake where you can soak up the sunshine, enjoy plenty of walking trails, and have a picnic with the kiddos. This open space is known as a forest reserve - for all of you Midwesterners out there - and it's a great place to get some fresh air.

If you're a foodie, make sure you call and make your reservations because Lakewood has some of the best restaurants outside of Denver. If you’re looking for great woodfired pizza, I highly recommend 240 Union as they can't be beat. If you’re looking for something a little bit different, Taste of Denmark is one to check out. And if it's your birthday, make sure you stop by Teller's to get two free beers for your special day.

For all of you avid golfers out there, Lakewood is home to the Fox Hollow Golf Course. Make sure you grab your clubs because these scenic views are amazing and they’ve got some pretty challenging holes. It's one place you'll definitely want to test your skills. And if you can beat that course, you can beat anything.

One of the other fun perks of living in Lakewood is that you're close to the Red Rocks. If you don’t know what that is, it’s an amazing music venue that has festivals throughout the year. There's a great eatery right on top. You can also sit in the foothills, have a bite to eat, listen to local music, or catch a big concert. It’s all up to you.

Northglenn

Do you know what city was named the perfect community in America? Northglenn, a suburb with small-town charm packed with big-city adventures. You'll find plenty of the usual cafes, restaurants, and all the fun and deliciousness of a big city but with 550 acres of open space - including 80 miles of hiking trails. You can have all of the outdoor adventures you want while soaking up the 300 days of sunshine that Colorado offers.

Another fun fact about Northglenn is it has great festivals throughout the year. And when I say great festivals, I mean really unique. For example, there's an annual pirate festival that features a giant pirate ship going right down Main Street. You can check Northglenn's local community calendar and see what festivals you could be missing out on.

Living in Northglenn also puts you nice and close to Denver. This allows you to experience everything the city has to offer, including the Denver Art Museum, the Denver Children’s Museum, the Botanical Gardens, and all the other local historic areas that Denver has to offer here. It's all just footsteps away when you're based in Northglenn.
