#10: You Love Your Raging Nightlife

Whether you're thinking of moving to Colorado or are already living in the Denver Metro, there's a lot to consider when relocating to a mountain town. Coming in at number 10, you’re going to absolutely hate it here if you’re one of those people that needs to have a raging nightlife. Of course, everybody likes to have fun on the weekends and in the evenings. However, the nightlife isn’t one of those things that is a massive draw in Eagle.

During the day on Saturdays and Sundays, you can usually find people kicking it at the local bars and restaurants. You'll see hundreds of people on the weekends with their bikes lined up at one of the local breweries in town - like 7 Hermits or the Boneyard. These spots are filled with people that love raging the sage and then having a couple of cocktails, kicking back and enjoying the wonderful Colorado sun.

#9: You Need Grocery Shopping Options

If you need a variety of grocery shopping options, Eagle's probably not for you. This city is very, very limited in the number of food stores available to pick and choose from. Some of the main stores include the Costco in town along with a City Market. However, I’ve yet to find a true health food store.

Back in Denver, there are a variety of different options such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods. Of course, if that’s your thing, you can still find organics and free-range items at these local stores. One of your best bets is to find a rancher that can provide you with grass-fed meats and maybe some of your vegetables, getting them delivered right to your house.

#8: You Thrive On Retail Therapy

Along the lines of number nine, if you need retail therapy, Eagle, Colorado is not going to be the place for you. Of course, there are some small boutiques in town. However, you really won’t find too much retail therapy here unless you need to go to Ace Hardware or somewhere similar.

The good thing is that I-70 runs right through town. Driving up the valley will take you to Beaver Creek in Avon as well as Vail up the road. Each of those areas is about 15 to 30 minutes away from Eagle. So if you really want to get your retail therapy on, those two ski resort towns will have your back - and shopping cart.

#7: You Enjoy The Sound Of The City

If you are one of those people that feels more safe knowing that there’s the hustle and bustle of neighbors and a city going on, you’re not going to like how quiet it is here in Eagle. In the first couple of weeks that we moved to Eagle, it was incredible how the stars came out at night. I haven’t heard a car honk but twice, as nobody’s in a huge hurry.

One of those cool things about having less hustle and bustle of the big metropolitan cities, of course, is hearing Eagle. There are no stoplights, just roundabouts. Once you get the traffic patterns down, it’s nice not to ever have to wait at a stoplight.

#6: You're A Couch Potato

Coming in at number six, if you're a couch potato, you are going to absolutely hate it here in Eagle, Colorado. Everybody seems to be outside all day long. It’s amazing. No matter what time of the day it is, we walk the dogs through the neighborhood. There are people out and about all day, every single day. It’s an outdoor Mecca.

#5: You Like To Have The Latest And Greatest

If you have to keep up with the Joneses, you’re going to go broke in Eagle. If you’re one of those people that needs the newest, hottest ski gear, mountain bike, truck, or kayak - or if you are one of those people that has lifestyle creep - Eagle, Colorado and Vail Valley may not be the place for you.

#4: You're Not A Fan Of The Western Lifestyle

The fourth reason Eagle might not be for you is if you don’t like the Western lifestyle. Eagle is a rancher-type, outdoor community. Some of the fun stuff to do here is a little bit different. I’m originally from Chicago, and I’ve now been to four different rodeos. I think they’re a blast. But if you’re just not willing to do new and cool things or live that Western lifestyle - whether it’s grabbing a cowboy hat or throwing a pair of boots on - you may not like living on the western slope of Colorado.

#3: You Hate Snow

If you don’t like snow, you are not going to like living in the mountains. When it snows, it sticks around. We’ve had snow now for going on three months, and it’s not going anywhere. The sidewalks are iced over, and I see people fall in all the time. You have to be alert and be aware that the ice sticks around.

During the winter on the Front Range in Denver, it’ll snow the same amount that we get in here in the mountains - but will be melted within a couple of days. However, if you can get over the chilly mornings, once the sun comes up it feels really nice on your face and your skin. Plus, you can go snowshoeing, cross country skiing, alpine skiing, and downhill skiing. If you can get out of your comfort zone and layer up, you can probably tolerate the snow because of all the wonderful things it brings.

#2: You're Not Into Nature

Coming down to number two, do not move here if you don’t respect nature. One of the huge things that I’ve noticed since we’ve lived here is that there is hardly any trash or any litter anywhere within the town limits. Obviously, it’s a much smaller footprint than Denver, and you’re dealing with fewer people. Still, the trash here is pretty much nonexistent. And when you do see it, it pretty much gets cleaned up within a day or two - which is awesome.

#1: You're Not Into A Community Spirit

The number one reason not to live in Eagle is if you don’t have a true sense of community. If you don’t like chitchat with the neighbors, you probably won’t like Colorado. If you don’t want to ask your neighbors for help, have a handshake and a beer afterward, or chat with them as your dogs pass on the walking trail, Eagle Colorado is not going to be for you.

This city is one of the most friendly places, bottom line. There’s not a lot of crime, so you don’t have that looking-over-your-shoulder, who-are-you, sizing-people-up type of attitude like you do in a larger city. Just be aware that Eagle, Colorado is a very, very friendly place.
