Exploring The Denver Metro’s Mountain Towns: Estes Park And Nederland

Do you know there's a place in Colorado where you can see elk on your morning commute? In this video, I'm going to share two amazing neighborhoods in the Denver Metro area: Estes Park and Nederland. I'll give you an inside look at what it's like to live in each of these mountain towns so you can decide if one of them is the right place for you.

Estes Park

Everybody’s heard of it and everybody knows about it, but what is it like to live in Estes Park? This town is known as the base for the Rocky Mountain National Park, which is pretty cool in itself. It's also the home of the Stanley Hotel, founded by the inventor of Stanley Steamer. It was also the inspiration for The Shining. And if you’re A Dumb And Dumber fan, you might recognize the front.

Inside this hotel, there's plenty to do. You can go take a ghost tour and see if you can capture one yourself. You can also tour some creepy tunnels and explore the room that exploded - which inspired The Shining. After, relax and grab a nice drink out on their brand new patio. You can have a drink at their famous whiskey bar featuring a custom tap and hundreds of different bottles to choose from - including some of the rarest whiskey in the world. Ever heard of Pappy Van Winkle? They have a 22-year, so make sure you stop in to have a drink today.

If you want to go exploring inside the Rocky Mountains but you don’t feel like hiking, you can head downtown and rent yourself an ATV or kayak to take to the trails or the water. You can go out unguided and explore on your own or take advantage of a guided excursion. Whether you went ATV or kayaking, you don't see a bear on your trail. But if you do, take precautions.

When you head back into downtown, keep an eye out for those elk because they are known for wandering straight down Main Street. All right, we talked all about Estes Park.

Nederland

Nederland is home to a frozen dead guy. There's a man who cryogenically froze himself until science finds a cure for heart attacks. He’s had multiple caretakers, and the gentleman that takes care of him today continues to put ice on him to make sure he doesn’t unfreeze too early.

To celebrate this gentleman, Nederland has a festival called Frozen Dead Guy Days. It happens every March and it's a blast; it's definitely one event that needs to be on your bucket list. Do you know why it’s so cool? First and most obvious: you’re celebrating a frozen dead guy. There are also between 30 and 40 different musicians, tons of different food vendors, and lots of games to be played that weekend. This includes a polar plunge if you want to jump in icy water in the middle of March.

Nederland is also really rich in history. Not many people know but back in the 70s and even a little bit earlier, it did have a lot of musicians that went up into the mountains to hide out and escape from the public and the paparazzi. They also hid out to record new music and escape the spotlight. There are many other things to offer, such as a big community town that's great for young couples and adventure seekers.

Explore Mountain Living

Nederland and Estes Park are both up-and-coming mountain towns that are really expanding. So whether you’re looking for a vacation home, investment property, or just want to move into the mountains, I highly suggest either town. There are lots of new builds popping up along with resales. If you're an adventure seeker, why not get up in the mountains and into that mountainside home you’ve always dreamed of?
