5 Denver Suburbs For Young Professionals And Families

Are you a young professional or have a family and have decided to move to the Denver Metro area? In this video, I'm going to share 5 of the top Denver suburbs for young professionals and families based on past clients. We'll look at each location's unique characteristics and advantages so you can make the best choice.

#1: Golden

If you haven’t heard of golden, do you even drink Coors beer? If not, that’s the place that you need to check out. It's the home of Coors' breweries, and you can take advantage of a free tour complete with 2 free beers. Aside from that, there's plenty of other things to do and see.

If you’re either a young professional couple or have young kids, Golden has plenty of outdoor activities because it's nestled right in the foothills. You're also only about an hour away from some amazing skiing. As a cool bonus, you can go back to Jurassic days by visiting Dinosaur Ridge.

There's also plenty of neat history along the front range here in Golden, Colorado. It's one of the last Denver suburbs that gets you on I-70 right into the foothills. As you start to head into the true mountains of Colorado, you'll find some killer attractions that are perfect for a fun day trip or a weekend getaway. Stop at Buffalo Bill's Museum and his actual gravesite to snap a picture, or enjoy water adventures on a kayak. In Golde, there's something to do for everyone.

#2: Lakewood

Some of our younger couples and younger families might be looking for something a little bit closer to downtown - but not quite in the heart. If so, Lakewood might be for you. Here you can find incredible restaurants like 240 Union, which boasts excellent woodfired pizzas. If you’re looking for something a little more unique, try Taste Of Denmark for delicious Scandinavian-style bread and pastries.

Lakewood seems to be one of the hotspots to settle in Colorado. If you need to commute to Denver, Lakewood is only about 7-10 miles away from the heart of Denver Metro. This neighborhood is also very family-friendly. It's one of the oldest suburbs in the Denver area and, if you’re looking to explore one of our famous fourteeners, Pikes Peak is nice and close. If want to stop by Red Rocks Park, it's 5-10 minutes down the road from Lakewood.

#3: Wheatridge

Our third suburb was just on our channel 9 news for making suburbs cool again. My wife and I were considering living in Wheatridge when we were looking at properties ourselves. One of the big draws for us was the fact that Wheatridge has large lots and older well-built, brick-style homes. The best part is their flat yards, which is a hard thing to find out here. You’ll notice that a lot of yards in the Denver Metro area have slopes and undulations to them.

Because Wheatridge is only 5 miles from downtown, it's nice and close for young professionals. There's also plenty to see and do, especially if you have kids. Wheatridge is close to the Denver Art Museum, the Botanical Garden, and the Denver Zoo. There are also a few awesome hidden gems on the restaurant scene as well.

#4: Castle Rock

If you’re looking to be a touch south of Denver and have a little bit more open space, Castle Rock is the place to check out. This is an awesome area of the Denver Metro, about 30 miles south of Denver. It's known for its small-town charm, abundant parks, and tons of open space. If you're coming from another state, open space is tax-funded property that all Colorado residents can use - and there are 6,000 acres of it in Castle Rock.

Castle Rock had some really good data come in for the 2017 census. It was ranked as the second-most healthiest county in the United States and one of the top seven fastest-growing communities in the country. Additionally, for my clients that are big outdoor people, they love the almost 100 miles of trails here.

#5: Centennial

For all you techies out there, Centennial is the place to be. It was voted one of the tech guru hotspots in 2001. If you have aspirations to fly your own Learjet someday - or even own one - Centennial has the third busiest non-commercial airport in the entire country. You can also find some great shopping in this neighborhood, especially the streets over at Southland. It's also close to the Broncos Training Center, while the Learjets, planes, and the busy airport are all close to the Broncos Stadium.

Just like all the other cities that we just mentioned, Centennial has instant access to all sorts of outdoor trails and parks that are very popular. One is Cherry Creek State Park. If you have a dog, it has one of the most spectacular off-leash dog parks I’ve ever seen with about 105 acres. We take our two dogs there all the time and they love it. There's also plenty of great water features to enjoy.

Moving To The Denver Metro

Everyone has their own kind of reasons for choosing a place to settle in Colorado. However, you can't go wrong with any of these neighborhoods - or with Colorado in general. I don’t know a single person that’s regretted their decision to move here.
